Material Reset: Bedroom Transformation
PROJECT OVERVIEW

Project Details

This project involves the refinement of an existing bedroom through material simplification and spatial re-calibration. The original condition presented contrasting finishes, loose furniture placement, and a lack of visual hierarchy. The intervention focuses on reducing excess, aligning elements, and establishing a consistent architectural language. A continuous herringbone timber floor replaces the existing tiled surface, introducing warmth while unifying the room under a single material datum. This move anchors the space and improves overall proportion. The bed is re-positioned and redefined as the central element, with a fully upholstered form that softens the geometry of the room. Flanking elements are reduced to minimal side tables, maintaining symmetry without visual weight. Walls are simplified into a neutral backdrop, with subtle curved transitions introduced to soften edges and remove rigidity from the existing layout. Artwork is limited and scaled to align with the bed width, reinforcing horizontal balance. Lighting is rationalized into a pair of suspended fixtures, establishing symmetry and freeing up surface space. This also contributes to a cleaner visual field and a more controlled ambient condition. Curtains are consolidated into a full-height, neutral layer, reducing contrast and integrating the window into the overall composition. The result is a quieter, more resolved space defined by clear hierarchy, consistent material application, and controlled detailing.
