From Contrast to Calm: A Scandinavian Living and Kitchen Transformation

This project involves the reconfiguration of an existing residential interior to establish spatial clarity and material consistency. The original layout presented fragmented zoning, inconsistent finishes, and limited visual continuity. The intervention simplifies the architectural language and consolidates the kitchen, dining, and living areas into a unified spatial sequence. A continuous herringbone timber floor is introduced as the primary datum, extending across all zones to reinforce continuity and proportion. This establishes a consistent base condition and enhances the perception of scale. The kitchen is redefined as a linear, integrated volume. Full-height, handleless cabinetry conceals storage and appliances within a continuous plane. A central island in light stone is positioned to organize circulation and define the working core without interrupting spatial flow. Material application is reduced to a controlled palette of timber, light mineral surfaces, and neutral tones. Vertical timber slat elements introduce measured articulation within the living area while maintaining alignment with the overall geometry. Lighting is resolved as a layered system, combining recessed ambient sources with minimal suspended fixtures to maintain a clean ceiling plane and even illumination. The result is a resolved interior with clear hierarchy, consistent material logic, and improved spatial performance.
